CSU sports Talk, Behind the Scenes – Derek Bailey

Sometimes CSU Sports talk is with the lights, the camera, and sports talk!

Sometimes its fun with the cracking up and joke slinging between us as friends!

But sometimes, CSU sports talk is hard tedious work behind the scenes!

Image

This week was the latter! I spend alot of time down here at the NPACE studio not researching stats, not sitting in front of a camera, but brushing up on my decrepit skills with Final Cut Pro. Final Cut pro is the the premiere software in digital footage editing. I worked on both the last episode of CSU Sports talk and also the last discovery day radio show broadcast shot in NPACE. Its alot of fun because we have all of the different camera angles broke up into a multicast screen where you watch all four camera angles at once and then click thru to redirect each one on the main screen.

These last couple of days in the Mac Lab have definitely got me more comfortable editing film but also have gave me a new found appreciation for the students that work behind the scenes at NPACE Studios!

Taking my talents to Group Comm – Derek Bailey

The best thing about being an intern for the NPACE Center, using your talents, abilities, and resources for other classes!!

Image

I have a group communication class for Dr. Gibson in which I volunteered to work with the Hope Harbour Shelter for domestically abused women and children. The shelter is a non profit organization which makes it fall right under the jurisdiction of the NPACE Center!!

Image

My class mates and I  decided to create a PR think tank for the organization so that they could have a set of materials in order to use to generate revenue, donations, and volunteers.

We used the labs in the NPACE center to shoot and edit video commercials, radio PSA’s, and flyer and distributed the materials out through uptown downtown Columbus and Columbus State University. We essentially raised the visibility of the organization.

We could have easily just volunteered our time or made donations but what we did is long standing. Far from the semester we worked with this organization they can use the material provided in order to still reach people and communities all throughout the Columbus and Muskogee area.

Another Day Another Dollar!! Image

This  weeks episode of CSU Sports Talk was another success I honestly feel like as the weeks roll on we become more proficient. We get smoother and smoother every week. This week we highlighted men’s basketball season wrap up and did a feature story on the golf team while providing  stats for other sports in competition right now. We had special guest Dean Sando, men’s basketball assistant coach. We have the first weeks show ready for roll and we also have the intro video that will open all of our episodes edited up, thanks to the hard work of CSU interns and student assistants! Honestly the broadcast is taking off quite well.

ImageThe 2nd half of my day was devoted to artbeat! After the show we literally about a 30 min turn around till we had to reorder the studio and get it ready for a running 2 hour segment full of interviews conducted by myself and WLTZ’s own Josh Pate. It was good being back on air with Josh.

He kind of showed me the ropes on my first live broadcast a year ago and I had honestly forgot how well we worked together. I had a great time learning about all the different performances put on at Artbeat that I may have not have heard about in the natural course of my day. It served as a bonding experience. Different guest meeting and conversation and painting us each a backdrop of their artistic works and involvement into Artbeat. I can honestly say, I could do this for a very long time. Not too mention we were provided free pizza by the department…I was a very happy camper!!

Tune in next week to CSU Tv for another episode of CSU Sports Talk. Also feel free to reach out and contact me personally if you have any ideas for an athlete spotlight or a segment, bailey_derek1@columbusstate.edu.

CSU Sports Talk_ Episode III

Revenge of the Crew!

In this thrilling installment of CSU Sports Talk we had the guest that I’ve wanted to interview since before the show started!!

CSU mens Baseball coach, Coach Appleton. I’d heard great things about coach A and had been following him and the team since my days on FNSP and had been wanting to interview him for a while. Simple put he is the Mike  Krzyzewski of Div. II baseball. His list of accomplishments are too long to list here but I’ll put it to you like this, he has took two different peach belt programs to the level of national notoriety and the one he is coaching now is a favorite to win the conference and return to nationals!!

One downside to this episode is this is the last of the season for CSU Sports Talk. I really had a great time doing the show and look forward to next season!! I really appreciate all the students and faculty who came together to make this show a success but I really want to give a big shout out to PROFESSOR ROGER HART!

Since I’ve arrived at Columbus State University he has pushed me to develop my broadcasting talents and him and Dr. Gibson have afforded the ability  to be on many different broadcast and without them none of this would be possible.

And thats all Folks

See ya!

See ya!

ArtBeat Radio, Arts in the Heart of Columbus!

Artbeat to me, is the life of Columbus. For two weeks, people come together and express themselves through their art. Me being originally from Augusta, Georgia I know of festivals like this such as Arts in the Hear. But Artbeat to me is special because of my involvement in it every year.

This week at the NPACE radio center I got to interview some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met. Latino artist, sculpture artist , actors, dancers, chairmen of committees.

The key that I’ve learned from working on Radio with Josh Pate is in instances like this let him take over and do all the work!

No I’m just kidding, but the thing that really has people come alive on air is talking about their passion. Having them sit down and explain their life, their art, their angle. That is what really makes the whole thing pop.

Where else are people of different nationalities, cultures, backgrounds, and artistic taste going to meet up and become one for two weeks?

The answer is nowhere, nowhere but Artbeat.

CSU Sports Talk, Take Two, Derek Bailey

This week on CSU sports Talk we had a couple of different segments, we had Dean Sando , men’s basketball assistant coach, and a member from CSU stacked Golf Team, and when I say Stacked I mean stacked!!

CSU Golf

CSU Golf

The Golf team, much like baseball and tennis teams are off to a sizzling hot start and are a team you should most definitely keep your eye on in the future!!

After having Matt Gay do a special interview with the Golf Team, I got to do what I do best, sit down and talk basketball with Men’s basketball assistant coach, Dean Sando. It was great having played for Sando as a player and now getting to interview him about the culture of Columbus State and where its heading in the future it kind of put a certain warmth in my heart to see some one who cares about players and the program as much as I do.

I know the semester is coming to an end guys but please stay tuned cause we still have more to come!!

CSU Sports Talk – Derek Bailey – Night Life!!!

Play that funky Music!

Play that funky Music!

I know a lot of our audience think the I am a sport’s junkie that lives in a man cave and survives off of sodas and chips, and well honestly that is true. But sometimes CSU sports allows me to venture out with the upper crust of Columbus and attend events like Toast of the Town, where the who’s who of Columbus gather to mingle!!

This was my 2nd year attending the event and it is fair to say I had an even better time than last year. Here local wineries and breweries bring their best beverages and local chefs prepare their best dishes and influential member of Columbus society mingle the night away with all proceeds going to the Columbus Symphony and other charities.

Houston we have Lift off – CSU Sports Talk – Derek Bailey

After Weeks of planning and painstaking work its here ladies and gentlemen!

CSU TV’s own Sports Talk Broadcast!! This show was the brain child of myself Chatil Bradford and Matt Gay. We’ve been planning this radio show out since the semester started and with the help of other students in the NPACE center we recorded our first broadcast this morning.

Image

Honestly I felt very comfortable with the cameras around because it was very similar to the Friday Sports Focus Show I’m already doing for NPACE radio. So for me it went hand in hand. It was a little bit more nerve racking because as opposed to that show, I’m the host so the responsibility is a little bigger. Big Kudo’s to Matt Gay and Josh Pate for being able to do this on a week in and week out basis!

Image

Tune in every couple of weeks for our Bi-monthly broadcast but DONT FORGET about the Friday night weekly show with Matt, Mark Madden, and myself where we talk EVERYTHING SPORTS. Also look for a special surprise very soon with a visit from a very Special guest!!

Derek Bailey- NPACE Radio and CSU TV

Another Week, another Successful broadcast for NPACE Radio!  Last night me and Matt had to do a two man show because the “ladies man” Marky Mark had to leave to celebrate Valentines day!

Host - Matthew Gay

We held it down with the two of us. Matt offered his thoughts on Jay Z’s spot in hip hop culture while I navigated picks about last weekends NBA ALL Star weekend!

Speaking of NBA All star weekend look for a wrap this week along with some headlines from the trade deadline this week, along with a description of how the NBA Dunk contest is NOT back and why Kyrie Irvine stood out amongst the NBA elite last weekend. Also be on the lookout for possible guest starts on this Friday nights broadcast!!

Another Week and another successful broadcast for the Friday Night Sports Focus Crew. Over the last weeks show we talked about alot of different topics from sports,  entertainment,  and just life in general. We discussed the incredible hot streak Kevin Durant is on and what that means in the grand scheme of things, we talked NFL Hires and Fires of the week. We talked CSU sports and much more. What are we talking about this week coming up?? You’ve got to tune in to hear!

On the flip side CSU TV is starting and preparing itself for its on sports broadcast. This week we started filming on our first cover story local basketball standout and sensation freshmen phenom RJ Sessions. Rj is from Columbus Georgia and took his high school team to the Final Four. Now RJ is making headline in Columbus again as a freshmen phenom who is 2nd in the team in scoring on a struggling cougar team that has had to see him step up in a large role as a freshmen.  Rj sat down with CSU tv and told us what makes him tick. For that feature stay tune to CSU TV.
