As we all know it is Black History Month. For our morning show, WLTZ First News Today, our anchor Kirsten, wanted to do a quote of the day. She put me in charge of it. I was very excited to be able to put my creative side to use. Even though it is a simple task, it means a lot to me personally. Because I am African American, I take pride in my culture’s history and all that we have accomplished. Like some of the examples above, people from Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall have played significant
roles in the African American History and creating opportunities that were not available in the past.

I wanted to do something new and different and not just concentrate on well known civil rights activists but also the people that most people don’t even know about. I haven’t done this person yet, but Hattie Mcdaniel was the first African American to win an Oscar in 1940, for her role of Mammy in Gone With The Wind. I want the daily quotes to inspire the people reading them. I like to choose photos that tell a story by itself. I love Rosa Parks picture because it stands by itself. When choosing colors to contrast with the picture, I can’t just think about how it looks in front of me but also on the TV screen. When I first started making these they were not sending through correctly, so I had to make sure the format was correct.

As I stated early it means a lot to me to have this opportunity to do this and continue to educate our audience on Black History.
