Event Planning- Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity- Anna Justice

I’ve gotten a little taste of what it takes to put together an event like “A Feathered Affair.” And I’m loving it.

I wrote a blog for Habitat this week giving the details about this great event to the public. We are having a birdhouse auction downtown at the Joseph House Gallery.

We’ve been working out the details of the event such as finding catering, getting tables, chair, invitations, tickets, and making sure birdhouses are distributed. Since we’re a nonprofit, we try to save money where we can so more of our budget can go to construction instead of overhead costs. And thankfully, we have generous sponsors in this community who have been willing to donate various things such as floral arrangements, tables, chairs, and their time and talents to decorate a birdhouse for the actual auction!

These were some of the birdhouses that were decorated by local Habitat supporters from the event last year. This whole process has been a great learning experience and also a lot of fun!

Community Involvement: Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity- Anna Justice

As Laura Ann Mann (our Resource Development Manager) stated on CAHFH’S Facebook page, we have now become “hip.” We got an Instagram at Habitat, and I’m excited to have one more avenue to engage publics, especially millennials.  (Especially since Instagram is my favorite form of social media, so I am more familiar with it.)

This picture was our first Instagram post. We went out to Seale, AL to visit “The Museum of Wonder.” Butch Anthony, a wonderful local artist, will be decorating a birdhouse for Habitat’s birdhouse auction.  We can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

Laura Ann and I were listening to a webinar in the office the other day, and the topic was about engaging the community. Millennials, in particular,  have  a lot to give in terms of their passion and zeal for the causes they care about.

I want Habitat to be that cause. I really believe in the mission and the heart behind what we do. So creating this Instagram is just one more baby step towards getting involved in those who already volunteer at Habitat and even to those who are not familiar at all.
