Mayo Clinic is a nonprofit worldwide leader in medical care, research and education for people from all walks of life. Doctors from every medical specialty work together to care for patients, joined by common systems and a philosophy of “the needs of the patient come first.”
St. Francis recently had a press conference to tell everyone that they are now partnering with the Mayo Clinic this is a great opportunity for the hospital to advance in health care as it related to its patients. As I was at the hospital the morning of the press conference, something that came up that I learned in my PR classes that was extremely exciting to me. “Employee relations.” There was a lot buzz about the mayo clinic partnership but a lot of people didn’t know exactly what was going on. Robert Granger CEO announced the great news to the employees before anyone else. This was to ensure that the employees of St. Francis knew before the public. The employee conference was very simple and sweet, due to the many patients that had to be seen and work that needed to be done. as I learned in many of my classes if your employees aren’t happy, no one is happy. So be sure they know whats happening first before the public.
After the employee conference may of the news station and newspaper journalists showed and were handed press kits for them to get a feel for what was happening for the day. During this time I was to get to meet some of them and see how they shoot video during the press conference. Although my internship was never with a TV station I got a pretty interesting view of things.
